My original idea is to fulfill my child hood fantasy of galaxy, since I was at elementary school, I was so curious about what universe look like, and how large it is.
Recently, I had a chance to take a visit to a local elementary school in San Francisco, I noticed that there is a line of planets of solar system illustrations on the back wall of the classroom, and at the end of the class, the teacher end it up with playing a music video about planets in solar system on Youtube, then all children gathered excited around the screen and sing alone the chorus. It makes me realize that my curiosity in my childhood might be the common part of the children around the world. When I made “my abstract version of galaxy”, what I want is to make a memorial project that reminds me where my very early imagination origins.
The idea of making this video installation generated from the “Breaking the Sound Barrier” class by Lataetia Sonami, when she taught me how to make a circuit board with photo sensors that emits sound, there rises a question that what my video works would sound like through such mechanism. So I tested a variety of videos with my circuit, it turns out like this.
The video comprise of many parts, from analog effects to digital effects, from computer generated images to real shooting footage, there’s no rules for the collection, more diverse the better to test the sound.
